Arm Lift / Thigh Lift

If you have lost a lot of weight (well done!) you may be finding that you are left with unsightly excess skin.  This condition is most commonly seen in the upper arms (where it is sometimes known as "bingo wings" or "bat wings") and also the thighs/tops of legs.

Especially as the skin starts to age, this excess skin can be unsightly.  If there is a lot of excess droopy skin, exercise and moisturising will not be enough to treat it so surgery is the only option.  It can help you achieve shapely and toned arms and legs.

Arm Lift / Thigh Lift Procedure

Although obviously on a different part of the body, the surgical procedure for these 2 areas is very similar in principle.

The procedure will be carried out under General Anaesthetic.  The surgeon will carefully make incisions into the arms/legs and will remove the excess skin to create a more streamlined profile.  Depending on your physiology, the surgeon may also remove any excess fat with liposuction, although this is not always required.

The incisions are usually made discretely in the natural contours of your body.  Scarring will be visible after the procedure, but after about a year, any scars have normally faded from red to white and should be minor compared to the condition you are treating.

Patients generally find that the removal of this condition enables them to make much wider choices of clothing - they are no longer trying to conceal the problem and actually have a great shape to show off!

Your Consultation

An appointment with your plastic surgeon is an opportunity to have an open and directed discussion about what aspects of your arms or legs make you unhappy, how the condition may have developed and the improvements you would like to achieve. Your general health will also be assessed and the plastic surgeon will recommend the best course of treatment for you.  You will also receive individual advice on your recovery.

Aftercare

Arm lifts and thigh lifts are quite a major operation and you will generally be advised to take 1-2 weeks off work to recuperate.

After the procedure, you should avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activity.  However, moderate exercise is good for your recovery as it generates good circulation.
