The president of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, Mr Fatah, has warned the BBC that the lines between cosmetic surgery and cosmetic salon treatments are being blurred.

Cosmetic surgery treatments should be conducted by trained professionals.

“There is a difference between plastic surgery – facelifts, breast enhancement, tummy tucks, liposuction, etc – and cosmetic salon treatments such as lasers, peels and injectable fillers” he remarked.

While cosmetic treatments such as BOTOX and fillers are temporary treatments carried out to manage the external signs of ageing, cosmetic surgery is considerably more complex.

Firstly, the reasons behind someone looking to have cosmetic surgery are likely to be quite involved. Does the patient have realistic expectations for the outcome? Has the patient suffered bullying? Do they understand what surgery entails and what General Anaesthetic involves? Are they prepared for the recovery/healing stage? Are they prepared to stop smoking/lose weight or similar prior to surgery?

A good Cosmetic Surgeon will spend time understanding the patient’s full motivations for surgery, as well as appraising their medical history and physiology.

Mr Fatah added that when cosmetic surgery is done for the right reasons, “the reward is a significant enhancement of the wellbeing and the quality of life for the patient”.

A spokesman for Why Go Abroad said: “Often, a very simple cosmetic surgery procedure, such as liposuction or nose reshaping (rhinoplasty), can make a big difference to your look.

“This can often make you feel far happier with your body – and give you a real boost in confidence – but we would always urge clients to take full advantage of a consultation with a cosmetic surgeon prior to making any decisions.

“You should ask aall your questions and ensure that you have a thorough understanding of what can be achieved and what surgery involves. Your surgeon should be honest about the realistic outcomes.”

At Why Go Abroad, all surgeons are certified by The General Medical Council and the cosmetic surgery process includes:

An initial consultation with a cosmetic surgeon to discuss what procedure you’re considering and set realistic expectations

A GMC-registered surgeon for the procedure

A follow up appointment to check your post-op health

Up to six months’ aftercare to ensure your continuing wellbeing.

The news that the medical council in New Zealand has banned before and after images in cosmetic surgery adverts has caused quite a stir.

The news that the medical council in New Zealand has banned before and after images in cosmetic surgery adverts has caused quite a stir.

The council in question is rightly keen that cosmetic surgery is not overly glamorised, but plastic surgery experts argue that the images can play a key role in helping patients make informed decisions.

So what is the truth?

Cosmetic surgery experts at Why Go Abroad reckon it’s somewhere in between.

“The council is clearly trying to be responsible and it’s absolutely true that no-one should ever feel pressured or tricked into surgery,” said a spokesman.

“However, the truth is that patients want to see what the outcome of a procedure could be. If a woman is thinking of a breast enlargement, she wants to know how it could look so she can visualise the difference to her. Similarly, if a man is considering a hair transplant or male breast reduction surgery, a before and after picture could make all the difference.

“The risk with banning real-life pictures of former patients is that some providers might use artificial images, which is not the way to go.”

Why Go Abroad uses only General Medical Council-certified surgeons to ensure that patients’ wellbeing is always the top priority.

The myth that cosmetic surgery is a women-only domain has truly been exploded and, in a society where the need to look good is paramount, a growing number of men are going under the knife.

The myth that cosmetic surgery is a women-only domain has truly been exploded and, in a society where the need to look good is paramount, a growing number of men are going under the knife.

Leading American plastic surgeon Dr James Shire reckons that about a third of his patients are male. More importantly, over the past 12 months, those numbers are increasingly dramatically.

And it’s not just abroad that has seen a rise in plastic surgery for men, with UK-based experts Why Go Abroad also seeing a trend for more males on the surgeon’s couch.

“Even as little as five years ago many men still felt as though cosmetic surgery was principally for women. That view has totally changed now and we are seeing a real increase in men as a result,” said a spokesman.

“After all, why shouldn’t men have every right to improve their body and confidence too?”

What cosmetic surgery are men choosing?

The most popular procedure among Dr Shire’s male clients is rhinoplasty (or nose reshaping) with 24 percent of patients having it done. In second place, at 14 percent, was liposuction.

For Why Go Abroad, hair transplants and male breast reductions (or moob jobs!) are added to these to make up the top four procedures for men.

A spokesman for Why Go Abroad added: “All of these procedures deliver the same basic principle – making patients look and feel better – which is why men should feel every bit as entitled to cosmetic surgery as women.”

If you're one of the thousands of women who isn't entirely happy with your breasts, you have probably thought about a boob job at some time or another.

If you’re one of the thousands of women who isn’t entirely happy with your breasts, you have probably thought about a boob job at some time or another.

And you’re right, cosmetic surgery is a great way to achieve the body of your dreams.

But before you decide on the procedure for you, cosmetic surgery experts Why Go Abroad have put together this simple guide to boob jobs.

Boob jobs explained

Firstly, you may hear the procedure called several different names: breast enlargement, breast augmentation, breast implants, to name but a few.

Don’t panic! These all refer to the UK’s most popular cosmetic surgery procedure, a simple boob job, which enlarges the breasts and create a more shapely and better-proportioned figure.

But if you’re not happy with your bust, it’s not just a case that bigger is better.

In fact, breast reduction operations are becoming increasingly popular. This procedure is just as effective at helping women feel confident about their bodies.

And men no longer need to feel left out, as gynaecomastia – or male breast reduction – is one of the cosmetic surgery industry’s biggest growth areas!

Finally, a breast uplift procedure is also available for women looking to regain a more youthful figure.

This is slightly different from a boob job and shouldn’t be confused. A breast uplift – or mastopexy – raises sagging breasts to make them more pert. If breast tissue has been lost, a breast implant can be inserted for a more voluptuous shape.

Take a look at some of the UK’s best cosmetic surgery prices, and speak to one of Why Go Abroad’s experts to find out the best procedure for you.

If the 'noughties' saw a boom in cosmetic surgery, the so-called 'teenies' looks like being the decade where plastic surgery is fully accepted by the public.

If the ‘noughties’ saw a boom in cosmetic surgery, the so-called ‘teenies’ looks like being the decade where plastic surgery is fully accepted by the public.

Quite apart from the traditional procedures that are well known and massively popular (like boob jobs and liposuction), it’s a clear sign that people are totally comfortable with cosmetic surgery when the industry’s largest growth area is male breast reductions.

That the mainstream media now extensively reports on the industry’s changing trends only serves to confirm this view and, given this background, it’s hardly surprising that ‘moob jobs’ have increased by 80% since 2008.

Men no longer embarrassed about cosmetic surgery

Cosmetic surgery experts at Why Go Abroad said: “We are seeing more and more men interested in a range of procedures, principally gynaecomastia (male breast reduction) and rhinoplasty (nose jobs).

“Men have stopped feeling embarrassed about plastic surgery and we are seeing increasing numbers of men who want to look and feel good. Quite rightly, they also expect to have as much choice of cosmetic surgery as women, so the industry is changing quite significantly.

“While no cosmetic surgery should be undertaken lightly, most of the procedures we offer are available to men and women and the key thing is to speak to experts about what is right for you.”

Why Go Abroad offers affordable cosmetic surgery prices as well as specialist consultants in a wide range of procedures.
Though several A-list celebs have recently spoken out for cosmetic surgery, it seems as though women in the West Midlands needed no prompting, after the region was recently crowned as the liposuction capital of the UK.

Though several A-list celebs have recently spoken out for cosmetic surgery, it seems as though women in the West Midlands needed no prompting, after the region was recently crowned as the liposuction capital of the UK.

A total of 2,046 pints of fat were removed during liposuction procedures in the West Midlands over the past five years – that’s 409 pints a year!

Despite this vast figure, liposuction shouldn’t be confused with weight-loss surgery – the procedure is very much a cosmetic treatment to remove stubborn areas of fat and reshape the body.

And with prices from just £2,450 and amazing before and after results, it’s hardly surprising that so many people have opted for the treatment.

But it’s not just liposuction that is booming

Elsewhere in the industry there has been a major growth in male cosmetic surgery, with male breast reduction (the procedure that coined the term ‘moob’, or ‘man boob’) at the forefront.

In spite of this, the most popular procedure carried out by cosmetic surgery experts Why Go Abroad remains the boob job.

A spokesman for Why Go Abroad said: “Boob jobs make up around half of the procedures we carry out each year, with liposuction the second most popular and tummy tucks the third.

“The industry may be changing but these three remain at the top of the list.”

With cosmetic surgery prices more affordable than ever, why not take a look and see whether the specialist at Why Go Abroad can advise you today?

And it’s hardly surprising, either.

Cosmetic surgery today is almost an art form, with trained, experienced and skilled surgeons smoothing and shaping bodies (think of liposuction and tummy tuck procedures) to create happier, more confident patients.

This reality is a world away from the concerns many people harboured, even just a few years ago, about the safety of plastic surgery.

And everyone has marvelled at pictures of celebrities who have transformed their appearance with breast implants, a nose job or a hair transplant – and the great thing about it is that cosmetic surgery today isn’t just for A-list celebs.

Cosmetic surgery prices have fallen, demand has soared

Why Go Abroad offers a range of cosmetic and obesity surgery that is both expert and affordable and the result is that clients come from every walk of life, not just the rich and famous!

A full price list is available, but a few of the most popular treatments include:

Liposuction from £2,450

Breast enlargement (boob job) from £3,595

Male breast reduction from £3,695

Gastric balloon from £3,950.

A spokesman for Why Go Abroad said: “We have seen a major shift in cosmetic surgery over the past decade and just as safety standards and quality has risen, so cost has come down.

“Treatments that were once prohibitively expensive for many people are now carried out every day. Where once cosmetic surgery was just for the rich, today it is affordable for almost everyone, making it more popular than ever.”

Male breast reduction is one of the leading cosmetic surgery procedures for men, with the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) reporting a 1000% increase over the past five years!

The popular treatment to tackle man boobs – or ‘moobs’ – is at the forefront of the rise in male plastic surgery that has swept the industry. Not only have surgical techniques improved, but also a cultural shift has seen men far more willing to go under the knife.

Today men want to take care of themselves every bit as much as women do, and that means procedures like male breast reduction to help them look their best.

Male breast reduction explained

Also known as a gynaecomastia, the procedure removes excess glandular tissue or sagging skin from the breast area. Liposculpture can also be used to remodel the breast during the surgery.

A ‘moob job’ can be carried out using two different techniques:

by making a small incision around or below the nipple and cutting away the unwanted tissue

by breaking up and drawing off excess fat through a fine cannula. The cannula is inserted through a tiny incision near the armpit or under the nipple.

The surgeon will discuss the best method for you in a pre-surgery consultation and typically the procedure will only require a one-night stay in hospital.

Cosmetic surgery experts Why Go Abroad offer male breast reduction prices from £3,695 and the best way to illustrate the amazing results that are possible with a ‘moob job’ are before and after pictures.

A recent survey found that four in five men would consider cosmetic surgery and think celebrities, like Gordon Ramsay and Simon Cowell, look better for their treatment.

A recent survey found that four in five men would consider cosmetic surgery and think celebrities, like Gordon Ramsay and Simon Cowell, look better for their treatment.

As well as the 83% of men who said they would consider having plastic surgery in the future, this year has seen a surge in men taking the plunge, with an 82% increase in male cosmetic surgery procedures in 2009.

The inevitable conclusion is a major culture change and Why Go Abroad has seen a number of treatments become especially popular in recent years.

Most popular cosmetic surgery for men

While Gordon Ramsay famously chose BOTOX™ as his treatment of choice, your everyday 21st Century chap seems to be more preoccupied with his ‘moobs’ or man-boobs, if the rise in male breast reductions is anything to go by.

Industry body British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (or BAAPS) has recorded an incredible 1000% increase in these procedures in the past five years.

The results can be dramatic and male breast reduction can be done in two ways:

A small incision in the ‘moob’ area and then surgically removing the unwanted tissue

A newer process, similar to liposuction, where a cannula is inserted to the area and used to drain off the excess fat.

A male cosmetic surgery expert from Why Go Abroad said: “Celebrity endorsements and comments have made men more willing to consider procedures.

“Men are definitely taking more pride in their appearance and this is conveyed through the increase in demand for male cosmetic surgery procedures.”

Male breast reduction prices start at just £3,695 and are available both in the UK and abroad.

A spike in male cosmetic surgery is expected after celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay confirmed the truth behind his facial fillers.

A spike in UK male cosmetic surgery is expected after celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay confirmed the truth behind his facial fillers.

Although the Michelin-starred chef admitted his procedure – ‘filler’ injections to smooth out the trademark wrinkles in his chin – was painful, the results are dramatic. Why Go Abroad is now bracing itself for a rise in face lifts and facial cosmetic surgery enquiries.

But the international male cosmetic surgery experts have warned that patients need to think carefully before they decide to go ahead with plastic surgery.

A spokesman for Why Go Abroad said: “It’s great that celebrity stories help remove any lingering taboo about cosmetic surgery for men but honest consultation beforehand and a clear plan of aftercare are the key elements in making your choice – you have to be comfortable with the whole procedure from the word ‘go’.

Cosmetic surgery prices

He continued: “Cosmetic surgery prices are obviously important but your health is the main thing. That’s why the quality of advice you are offered and aftercare you will receive should be the biggest factor behind your choice of provider.”

Why Go Abroad provides a free consultation and expert post-surgery care included in the price to guarantee your peace of mind.

So, whether you are looking for a face lift or rhinoplasty (nose job) for the perfect face, or male breast reduction or even a hair restoration to boost your confidence, you can achieve your perfect look at an affordable price.
