Gastric Bands in the news as interest rises

It’s pretty well known that gastric bands are an effective weapon in the on-going battling against obesity in the UK, but they now been praised as an unlikely aid to conception!

One mother-of-two Lisa Rea, who lost 16 stone with a gastric band and was able to conceive her second child as a result, put the success squarely down to her weight-loss surgery.

Ok, so cases like Lisa’s are pretty unique (and, obviously, Lapband manufacturers neither claim, nor seek, to help people become pregnant with the procedure!) but the fact that the story is reported at all highlights the rise in interest there is in such treatments.

Obesity surgery experts at Why Go Abroad may not have seen many cases of increased fertility from gastric bands (who has?!) but they have seen plenty of similar weight-loss stories.

What are the real benefits of gastric bands?

“Lapbands are a simple way of controlling what you eat and learning healthier eating habits – and not just for weight loss and your appearance, ” said a Why Go Abroad spokesman.

“There are so many health problems associated with being overweight and gastric bands can be incredibly effective at cutting your risk of heart conditions or diabetes. It’s far more than your average cosmetic surgery – it can lead to a better way of life.”

Gastric bypass and gastric balloon treatments are other popular weight-loss solutions, but none seem to have grabbed the public’s attention like gastric bands.

With any treatment you are planning, be sure to speak to an expert at Why Go Abroad for more information.
