Nose-reshaping and liposuction top men’s cosmetic surgery wish list

The myth that cosmetic surgery is a women-only domain has truly been exploded and, in a society where the need to look good is paramount, a growing number of men are going under the knife.

Leading American plastic surgeon Dr James Shire reckons that about a third of his patients are male. More importantly, over the past 12 months, those numbers are increasingly dramatically.

And it’s not just abroad that has seen a rise in plastic surgery for men, with UK-based experts Why Go Abroad also seeing a trend for more males on the surgeon’s couch.

“Even as little as five years ago many men still felt as though cosmetic surgery was principally for women. That view has totally changed now and we are seeing a real increase in men as a result,” said a spokesman.

“After all, why shouldn’t men have every right to improve their body and confidence too?”

What cosmetic surgery are men choosing?

The most popular procedure among Dr Shire’s male clients is rhinoplasty (or nose reshaping) with 24 percent of patients having it done. In second place, at 14 percent, was liposuction.

For Why Go Abroad, hair transplants and male breast reductions (or moob jobs!) are added to these to make up the top four procedures for men.

A spokesman for Why Go Abroad added: “All of these procedures deliver the same basic principle – making patients look and feel better – which is why men should feel every bit as entitled to cosmetic surgery as women.”
