Breast Reduction - Why Go Abroad?
A breast reduction which is also called a reduction mammoplasty, is a cosmeic surgery
procedure to reduce the size of a woman's breasts by removing excess fat, glandular
tissue and skin.
Reducing the size of you breasts can improve and enhance your body contours, and
can also help women who suffer back problems as a result of very large breasts.
Many women who have had a breast reduction have also commented on how they have
much more success when shopping for new clothes as their options increase with a
smaller bust.
Why have a breast reduction?
If your breast size is not proportionate to your frame size, or the size of your
breasts cause you discomfort either physically or emotionally, then a breast reduction
could be for you.
Your consultation
During your medical consultation, your Surgeon will evaluate your health and expectations.
Be
sure to discuss your expectations frankly with your Surgeon and be sure to say if
you smoke or if you are taking any vitamins, or medication.
Your Surgeon will assess your medical and family history and request any pre-operative
tests which may be necessary and discuss your expectations and explain what can
realistically be achieved. Your Surgeon will explain the risks and benefits of this
procedure and
perform a thorough physical examination of the breast area.
The Surgeon may decide it is not in your best medical interest to proceed with surgery.
If you are not satisfied with your medical consultation, a second consultation with
another Surgeon can be arranged for a further opinion.
Surgeons and Anaesthetists
All of the Anaesthetists and Plastic Surgeons that would carry out your procedure
are fully qualified independent professionals who have successfully completed years
of training. The Surgeon undertaking the consultation will be scheduled to operate.
However in unforeseen circumstances it may be necessary to change Surgeons. In this
instance the replacement Surgeon would be of an equal standing. All the Surgeons
are registered with the GMC. You may wish to confirm this by telephoning 0845 357
3456 or writing to them at: General Medical Council, 178 Great Portland Street,
London, WC1N 6JE.
Post-op appointments
Post-operative follow-up is of paramount importance. Each patient undergoing Breast
Uplift surgery will be given post operative appointments for wound management
and suture removal. Post-operative instructions are vital and we consider it very
important that you adhere to them. Failing to follow these guidelines and attend
your appointments can adversely affect the outcome of surgery and put patient safety
at risk.
