Unfortunately, a woman's breasts can lose their shape and become drooping or pendulous either after weight loss following childbirth, or through the natural ageing process. This can be depressing and cause embarrassment – some women are even ashamed to undress.
A breast uplift, or mastopexy, changes the shape of the breast by simply removing excess skin from the breast and raising the bust to make the breasts firmer and more pert, making them look more youthful.
One of the reasons for having a breast uplift is that although you may be satisfied with the size of your breasts you would like to raise and firm your bust to make it look how it used to, or even better!
You can also choose to add volume to your breasts by combining an uplift with a breast implant to add more curves, but this is not the case for everyone. An uplift and implant will be more effective than an implant alone where the breasts have become saggy, as lifting the skin will ensure that the implants sit and project nicely.

During your medical consultation, your Surgeon will evaluate your health and expectations. Be sure to discuss your expectations frankly with your Surgeon and be sure to say if you smoke or if you are taking any vitamins, or medication.
Your Surgeon will assess your medical and family history and request any pre-operative tests which may be necessary and discuss your expectations and explain what can realistically be achieved. Your Surgeon will explain the risks and benefits of this procedure and perform a thorough physical examination of the breast area.
It's not hard sell - the Surgeon may even recommend that it is not in your best medical interest to proceed with surgery. If you are not satisfied with your medical consultation, a second consultation with another Surgeon can be arranged for a further opinion.
All of the Anaesthetists and Plastic Surgeons that would carry out your procedure are fully qualified independent professionals who have successfully completed years of training. The Surgeon undertaking the consultation will be scheduled to operate. However in unforeseen circumstances it may be necessary to change Surgeons. In this instance the replacement Surgeon would be of an equal standing. All the Surgeons are registered with the GMC. You may wish to confirm this by telephoning 0845 357 3456 or writing to them at: General Medical Council, 178 Great Portland Street, London, WC1N 6JE.
Post-operative follow-up is of paramount importance. Each patient undergoing Breast Uplift surgery will be given post operative appointments for wound management and suture removal. Post-operative instructions are vital and we consider it very important that you adhere to them. Failing to follow these guidelines and attend your appointments can adversely affect the outcome of surgery and put patient safety at risk.
You will normally stay in hospital for one night after a breast uplift, then return to recover at home.
You should expect to feel some discomfort afer the operation and will probably want to sleep quite a bit on the first day. The next day the pain should have eased considerably so that any further discomfort can be controlled by medication.
Recovery varies from person to person, but you should anticipate feeling sore and swollen for the early weeks, although most of the bruising and swelling usually dissipates within 3 weeks.
You are recommended to wear good post-surgical support bra after surgery. This is especially important if you are having breast implants. These are specially designed for breast surgery patients and have front fastenings, wide straps and soft materials that you will appreciate in your early recovery. Some women choose to purchase high street sports bras. These are cheaper, but generally fasten at the back and are less supportive. However, they are a great option after the first 2-4 weeks.
You should not wear under-wired bras until your surgeon has discharged you OR confirmed that your breasts are sufficiently healed.
You must avoid strenuous activity for 4-6 weeks - this includes lifting and vigorous sports activities.
The procedure will leave scars beneath the breast and running up to the nipple (an inverted "t" shape). These will fade over time. The scar lines are generally hidden by underwear.
