What is involved?
During your consultation the Surgeon will try to determine the changes that you wish to make to your ears. An incision is made on the back of the ear, surgical techniques such as cartilage removal and reshaping can be performed to create the desired look. This procedure can be done on one or both ears, as needed. An Otoplasty could provide significant enhancement to the appearance of the ears for both men and women. The procedure can be done under a local or a general anaesthetic and normally requires an overnight stay in hospital.
It is a relatively simple procedure with quite predictable results. It is a popular procedure with both men and women, often to fix "just that one thing" that they don't like about themselves.
Recovery
After surgery is completed, a head bandage is placed on in the operating theatre. It is important that this is not removed for a period of at least 7 days.
The next morning the pain will inevitably have eased considerably. Any remaining discomfort can be controlled by medication.
Drink plenty of water in the first 24hrs to replace fluid lost during the procedure.
Recovery depends greatly on the extent of the procedure, expect to feel sore and swollen for several weeks. Strenuous activity should be avoided for 4-6 weeks. Although most of the bruising and swelling usually disappears within three weeks, some patients may experience swelling for longer.
